Part VII of the Amendment of Dental Act 1971 imposed the need for every new registrant, registered on/after 29 June 2001 to undergo a 3-year mandatory national service in the MOH or in an institution approved by the MOH. At the end of the period, the practitioner is at liberty to opt for practice in the public or private sector.
In conjunction to the announcement made on 13th June 2015, the mandatory national service period has been reduced from 2 years to 1 year. This is only applicable to all practitioners registered with the Council on 1st July 2015 onwards. Registrations before 1st July 2015 are still subjected to the 2 years period. This is however subjected to the approval by the Honourable Minister of Health.
Please note that compulsory service period starts on the first day of reporting period.
